Y-LEAD Hosts Chika-Chika Buzz Session in Metro Manila
March 29, 2008
The Gerry Roxas Foundation–Youth Leadership Program Division (Y-LEAD) hosted a Chika-Chika Buzz Session for GRF awardees and scholars who are currently enrolled in colleges in Metro Manila last March 29, 2008. This is Y-LEAD’s initiative to provide opportunities for continued development of leadership potentials of awardees and to involve them in future activities of the program.
The buzz session was particularly conducted to orient the awardees about the Gerry Roxas Foundation and the Y-LEAD, to find out what the GR Leadership Awards mean to them, to get recommendations on how the Y-LEAD can be made more meaningful and to identify areas or activities that the awardees can implement with the program.
For this purposes, an orientation on the Youth Leadership Program was delivered by Annette Q. Villarruz, Program Officer. The awardees were then asked to create an artwork that would illustrate the meaning and value of the Gerry Roxas Leadership Award to them. The participants then discussed ways on how they can participate in enhancing the Y-LEAD program.
In another part of the session, Lina Laigo, Y-LEAD Managing Director, introduced the concept of Community of Leaders (CO-LEAD). The CO-LEAD is intended to be organized to create a new breed of young people who are empowered and determined to work towards change and make a difference in the lives of their fellowmen and communities. CO-LEAD activities involving youth leaders will keep alive the legacy of service, excellence and integrity exemplified by the late Senator Gerry Roxas.
Ms. Laigo related to the awardees that GRF is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and that various activities are lined up for the big event which will culminate with a grand convention of Leadership Awardees to be held at the Araneta Coliseum by the last quarter of this year.
A more concrete result of the session was an action plan for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the GRF. The participants committed to help in tracking their fellow awardees through their schools as well as to assist in the preparations for an anticipated big anniversary celebration.
The next Chika-Chika Buzz Session will be for GR Leadership Awardees who are now professionals and based in Metro Manila.
