December 10, 2007

Recently, Davao City marked its annual celebration of “Peace Week”.  Amidst the numerous related activities, the 2nd Barangay Justice Advocates (BJA) Congress, a Peace Conference attended by 300 BJAs from all over the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) provinces took place in Davao’s Grand Men Seng Hotel.  The BJA Congress was held last December 3-4, 2007, opening with a dance ritual performed by Tausug artists.  GRF Chairperson, Judy A. Roxas, delivered the welcome address.  Other guest speakers included Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno, USAID Mission Director Jon D. Linborg and Senator Mar Roxas.

Activities included an Exhibit on Best Practices, a Workshop and Consensus Building on Policy Reform Agenda for community justice delivery, and the event was capped by the BJA oath-taking led by Supreme Court Chief Justice Puno.  During said Congress, USAID Mission Director Jon Linborg expressed satisfaction with the positive effects of the USAID-funded Barangay Justice Service System (BJSS) project of GRF and reiterated USAID’s commitment to support justice and peace initiatives in the ARMM.
